  39.     Legally, yes.  Easily, no.  You're looking at moving a cheap
  40.     piece of equipment almost 400 MHz.  That's akin to converting
  41.     a Radio Shack Flavoradio to pick up TV.

  43.     Say you spend $20 for a pair of those units.  Figure on spending
  44.     at least another $50-$100 in attempting to convert them over.
  45.     Then look at Ramsey's catalog -- a five-watt, 12-channel 440 MHz
  46.     unit for $149.95 (less case).

  48.     I've heard of people moving those units up to 6 meters with varying
  49.     degrees of success, though.

  51.     The best I've heard is some guy who mounted one up on a tower and
  52.     operated it by remote control with his shack.  He had worked
  53.     six states when I read the article.

  68.     If you know how to get in touch with the International Radio Club
  69.     of America (IRCA), they had a group of members who did something
  70.     similar back in the mid 70s.  They would get really good
  71.     accuracy, often to the point of being able to ID a station
  72.     simply by its frequency.  IRCA has a reprint service, and that
  73.     info should be available.  I don't have their address, but it
  74.     should be in the WRTH.

  92. VHF/UHF Handbook, by Jessop, has a good description of helical
  93. filter design; the ARRL Handbook also has a section on them.
  94. Zverev's classic filter design book has a very interesting
  95. chapter on resonators of various sorts, including helicals
  96. at VHF and HF.

  98. I recently ran across a book, whose title escapes me (from
  99. Artech House?), specifically about helical filters and how
  100. to avoid 3\lambda/4 spurs and other annoyances.  The author
  101. advocates using a coil with a sense reversal partway along it.

  113. I've been trying to get the shareware PADS to bring all grounds in my
  114. circuit into a single point, without success.  I don't seem to have any
  115. control over which pins have the physical connections -- I can connect
  116. all grounds to a single point on the schematic, but when it's imported
  117. into PADS-PCB, that information is lost and PADS re-connects the pins in
  118. a daisy-chain format.
